4 R Model

The 4R model is a framework developed by the Josh Bersin Company that consists of four integrated elements: Recruit, Retain, Reskill, and Redesign.

This model helps HR and business leaders deal with talent, skills, and organizational transformation in an integrated and strategic way. Instead of the traditional approach of "Hiring to grow" and giving business leaders the headcount to constantly hire, this strategy looks at all business changes and decides strategically whether to hire, improve retention, reskill and move people internally, and/or redesign jobs for productivity.

In today's talent-constrained and skills-constrained economy the 4R model is a critical and very important way to grow, despite many shortages in the market. This research is discussed in detail in JBC's Global Workforce Intelligence Project with industry examples in healthcare, banking, CPG, and other industries.
