Remote Work/Workforce

“Remote” work is an employment arrangement that refers to work completed by an employee outside of the organization’s place of business. Remote work had been on a steady incline since the 1980s, though the concept was met with varying levels of interest by employers. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, when companies were forced to shut down offices, worksites, and other facilities due to public health concerns, remote work skyrocketed. Today, companies and employees continue to grapple with establishing clear, remote-work policies for their desk workers. Challenges include isolation and mental health issues, pay inequities, gender inequality, proximity bias, and risks to information privacy.
