Job Description
“Job descriptions” are narrative assets that are created to describe the tasks, activities, duties, and relationships of a particular job. Usually an output of job analysis, job descriptions have traditionally been the primary source of information for recruiters and managers seeking to hire new employees.
As companies become more agile, job descriptions need to be broader and more strategic rather than narrow and prescriptive. A conspicuous example is how a well-written job description for a technical job may become out of date quickly as the team shifts direction based on changes in the organization.
One company embracing this idea is Australian telecommunications giant Telstra, which has moved to a more dynamic organizational model for its workforce while ditching job descriptions in favor of a project-based talent marketplace.
