Course Overview

How can we retain and grow the employees we have so we don’t lose talent to competitors? How do we upskill and reskill parts of our workforce instead of turning to layoffs? How do we meet employees’ demands for more opportunity and flexibility? And how do we do all of that while also meeting critical business needs?

These questions are complex and interconnected, but at the heart, they fall into one big category: reimagining career and talent development. By leveraging new technologies and new ways of thinking, we can shed the linear, hierarchical career paths of the past and develop agile talent strategies that help organizations become future-proof.

In the Career and Talent Mobility course, we’ll explore these issues and the leading-edge answers that organizations are discovering. We’ll break old ways of thinking to embrace newer, more flexible, more employee-centered ways of thinking. We’ll investigate essential tools such as developing career pathways and talent marketplaces and look at the impact all of this has on HR.

Because, no matter where you sit, these talent issues affect you. And you can be a part of the solution. So, whether you work in L&D or recruiting, org design or rewards, join the JBA community in unpacking some of the biggest, thorniest issues in HR today in our Career and Talent Mobility course.

Questions You'll Explore:

  • What are the current leading practices in career development?

  • What are the three main approaches to career management and planning? How do they work together?

  • How does technology facilitate agile career development and what questions do we need to ask when evaluating it?

  • How do career pathways work in practice? What kinds of structures can they follow? Abstract or hard to measure?

  • Where and how do we start to set up a talent marketplace?

  • How can we better organize our own work and processes within HR in order to serve the interconnected needs of the organization around career development?

Field Manuals

Career and Talent Mobility is made up of five Field Manuals (our version of an online module). Each one contains a variety of types of content and social exercises culminating in a mini-project, reflection, or debate. Each Field Manual will take you between 30-45 minutes to complete but you can jump on and off at your own pace, as often as you’d like. The deeper learning happens in the discussions with your fellow learners, so be sure to check in on the conversations regularly.

Field Manual Overview:

  • 30-45 minutes to complete

Bite-sized, easy to read modules for an efficient learning experience.

  • Self paced

You can jump on and off at your own pace, as often as you'd like.

  • Engaging learning modules

Each field manual contains different types of content and social exercises, all culminating in a mini-project, reflection, or debate.

  • Career + Talent Mobility in Context

In a tight labor market, no one can afford to lose talent. And yet, employees cite a lack of career growth and development as one of the most critical reasons they are leaving their jobs. This Field Manual examines the state of career development today and asks: How can we reimagine career development and create endless opportunities for growth, education, and reskilling for our employees?

  • Agile Talent Mobility

Internal talent mobility is fast-becoming the answer to critical talent shortages as organizations recognize that reskilling people is vastly superior for both organization and employee. Despite this, very few organizations have a nimble, agile approach to internal talent mobility. This Field Manual outlines what that strategy looks like and the mindset shifts that underpin it.

  • Career Pathways

Career pathways—defined, often nonlinear routes for career growth and development—are a critical tool in developing agile career growth. Forward-thinking organizations are putting in the time and strategic thinking it takes to build career pathways, and reaping enormous benefits. This Field Manual serves as a primer to this essential tool.

  • Talent Marketplaces

Talent marketplaces are at the center of future-proof talent strategies. Beloved by employees and organizations alike, these AI-driven platforms connect talent with opportunity, solving business and people problems quickly and easily. This Field Manual gives you an introduction to this powerful tool.

  • Impacts of Talent Mobility Across HR

To have dramatic and lasting impact, a talent mobility strategy cannot live with one HR function; it needs an interconnected approach across the HR organization. This kind of silo-breaking can lead to even deeper impacts in HR, where we reimagine the structure and design of our own work. In this Field Manual, we’ll examine how evolving, agile talent strategies affect every corner of HR, with profound consequences.
