Job Rotation
“Job rotation” is the practice of systematically moving employees through different jobs. Assignments are typically temporary in nature and serve to provide employees with a wide range of exposure to an organization, team, or department. Job rotation is especially useful for new hires and early career employees as it offers a broad view of the company’s purpose and orients the worker in a hands-on way.
More tenured employees also benefit from job rotation since they have the opportunity to develop unused skills and capabilities. For the organization, job rotation, while boredom and presenteeism may be reduced, also gives visibility into untapped skills that could be relevant and applied elsewhere. The approach also results in a highly cross-trained workforce, potentially easing both succession and workforce planning.
